On October 27, 2005, the life of SLHS Sophomore Nayanci Gonzalez was taken while she was walking to school. Nayanci was in the process of leaving an abusive relationship with 17-year old Alejandro Fajardo of Oakland. Fajardo pulled his car over while Nayanci was walking to school, shot her in the back five times, and then shot himself.

On the anniversary this year, SLHS will have a memorial day with activities and a lunch rally for Nayanci. SLHS will have a peace walk that will begin at 2:15. We are going to the corner where she was shot and we will finish the walk she started that day and then go into the cafeteria for a memorial service. We will finish around 3:15 and then make our way out to the quad.

The county is also having their annual “remembering victims of domestic violence” ceremony at 3:30 in the quad at SLHS. The county memorial service starts at 3:30. Notables is going to sing at the service.
