Topic: Plot and Setting
Essential Question: How do authors manipulate plot, sequence and character to create great stories?
Recently, we've been reading short pieces of fiction and discussing the use detailed writing, flashback and flash-forward to manipulate time in a story. To build our understanding, we've written short narratives that focus on using the above techniques to describe common struggles and achievements. We've also spent time examining arguments and types of appeals in nonfiction texts.

Topic: Early American Literature
Essential Question: Whatʼs in Americaʼs DNA?
We built our understanding of Early America, and began our examining of literature with poetry by two women of the 1600's: Anne Bradstreet and Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. We'll continue examining narratives of early America, and move onto the Romantic Time Period.
In addition, we've focused on writing transactively through an assignment titled "Twitter 140," in which students espouse their philosophies, and reflect on them as well.
Finally, we've been practicing dramatically interpreting poetry.

Essential Question: What aspects of World Literature have influenced our society today?
Seniors have split their time between writing personal statements for college applications, and reading early Epics from around the World.
